Home Remodeling in Camden and Wyoming, DE

Remodeling for the two towns south of Dover, the older houses at their centers and the subdivisions around them.

Camden and Wyoming share a ZIP code and a school district and not much else. Camden began in 1783 as Mifflin's Crossroads, a Quaker settlement founded by Daniel Mifflin on land granted in 1680, and was a commercial center by the 1790s shipping goods through the port of Lebanon. Wyoming came with the railroad: the Reverend John J. Pierce arrived in 1865, bought land beside the tracks, subdivided it into building lots and sold them to newcomers who named the place for his home valley in Pennsylvania. Their post office opened in 1866 and the town was incorporated in 1869. Around both, the Caesar Rodney School District draws families to subdivisions from the 1970s to the 2000s, including the Wild Quail golf course community.

A house here is a Quaker-era or Victorian frame house on Camden's Main Street, a railroad-town house on Wyoming's grid, a 1960s rancher on the roads between, or a 2000s two-story in a subdivision. Dawson's serves all of them, about thirty-five minutes from Middletown.

Two towns, two permit desks

Camden issues its own building permits, with separate applications for residential construction and renovation, accessory structures, commercial work and demolition, and its permit application warns that every contractor on the site has to hold a Town of Camden license. Wyoming issues its permits from its own Town Hall too, but contracts all building inspections to a private inspection agency, and it adopted the 2018 International Residential Code by ordinance in January 2026. Addresses outside both towns go through Kent County, which also does plan review and inspections for towns that ask it to. Which of the three applies is the first question on any estimate here.

Older houses on the two Main Streets

Camden's older houses date from its Quaker and Victorian years and Wyoming's from its railroad years, and both kinds are balloon-framed with plaster, rear kitchen wings and bathrooms added long after. Kitchens get rebuilt in their wings with cabinetry fitted to old walls, bathrooms get proper subfloors and ventilation, and additions go straight back on the deep, narrow lots. Exterior work keeps to the profiles of the street: wood or wood-look siding repaired and painted, windows replaced with units that match the originals' divided lights.

Ranchers and subdivisions

The 1960s and 1970s ranchers between the towns are small-kitchen, one-bath houses on flat lots, usually on crawl spaces, so the work is opening the kitchen, rebuilding the bath and adding a room off the back. The 2000s subdivisions, Wild Quail among them, are two-story colonials whose builder finishes are due for replacement and whose homeowners associations review exterior changes before the town or county permit.

Dawson's serves Camden-Wyoming for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions, windows, siding, decks and carpentry.
